Why I’ve transferred my blog to WordPress

I’m a digitally-challenged person and so transferring to a WordPress blog for me is like jumping into the deep end of the pool for the first time.

I’m the person my hubby would like to hide in the closet should his peers come around and start talking about the web, the internet and all sorts of electronic stuff. You see, he teaches online journalism at the International Institute of Journalism in Berlin.

He urged me to start a blog two years ago. I signed up for one but did not put up a site. Just looking at the Dashboard or command page of WordPress made my head spin.

Then middle of this year I finally signed up for Facebook and Tweeter upon his prodding, then stumbled on Blogger and started blogging by trial and error. Lots of errors, but I learned.

And I met Japan-based Farah Trofeo on Facebook. She encouraged me to put up a WordPress site. And so I took another look at WordPress, with lots of help from Lynda.com tutorials.

I realized that my frustrations using Blogger could be addressed by WordPress. For instance, I could upload documents as PDF files to back up what I say in my blogs. I could change the color and size of the text easily to emphasize certain parts of the entry.

This is my latest adventure into virgin land. I’m learning everyday and making mistakes everyday. Hope you’ll join me.

Congratulations! That’s one of the best decisions you’ve made in your life (I am biased, of course). I’ve worked with both Blogger and WordPress but to stave off any further heated argument on this issue, let’s just say that both present different challenges and benefits to the user. (I enjoy tinkering with Blogger, too.)

I stumbled upon your latest post via Facebook, browsed over to here and instantly became a fan of your writing. Following you now on Twitter! :)

I’ve been looking around raissarobles.com and really am impressed by the good content here. I work the nightshift at my job and it is boring. I have been coming here for the previous couple nights and reading. I just wanted to let you know that I’ve been enjoying what I have seen and I look ahead to reading more.

I used all three: wordress.com, wordpress.org and blogger.com – and blogger is the easiest abd most flexible of them all.

Welcome to WordPress! No doubt WP is the platform for serious bloggers! Blogger is just another crap! Hehe…

  19. Francis says:

I disagree with FrancisR. WordPress is more flexible than Blogger. Take note, I’m am talking about the self-hosted WordPress platform (which is what this site is using).

IF you are talking about WordPress.com (free hosted WordPress blogs) then you are correct in saying Blogger is more flexible. But since this site is using WordPress.org (free, open-source, downloadable blog software) then you are incorrect and I am inclined to disagree with you.

    :)

  20. FrancisR says:

WordPress is not for bloggers who are masters of html… Blogger can be the best site for genius bloggers and web designers, for Blogger allows bloggers to tweak everything in it, unlike WordPress

  21. Francis says:

I believe you. Paragraph 1 (& 2), then in paragraph 4 you said “Tweeter” which should be Twitter :D

Congrats on using WordPress, the best blog platform & CMS there is :D
